General information
Organisation
The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is a key player in research, development and innovation in four main areas :
• defence and security,
• nuclear energy (fission and fusion),
• technological research for industry,
• fundamental research in the physical sciences and life sciences.
Drawing on its widely acknowledged expertise, and thanks to its 16000 technicians, engineers, researchers and staff, the CEA actively participates in collaborative projects with a large number of academic and industrial partners.
The CEA is established in ten centers spread throughout France

Job description
Low-carbon energies and renewable energies (photovoltaics, wind power) are essential to speed up global efforts on emissions reduction. Energy conversion systems are considered critical. In most applications, there are two major challenges:
· Increasing energy yields by increasing the switching frequency of new wide bandgap semiconductors such as SiC (Silicon Carbide), GaN (Gallium Nitride) or Diamond in the near future
· reducing the mass and volume of systems to save raw materials and energy
These power electronics systems have to operate in demanding environments, subject to electromagnetic interference and withstand high temperatures. However, these wide bandgap devices require advanced control systems (integrated driver circuits, sensors) to make the most of their performance. In addition, when commutating, they introduce voltage and current transients that generate electromagnetic interference. These disturbances are highly dependent on the arrangement of the components and the packaging methods (the aim is therefore to minimize electrical and thermal resistances as well as parasitic inductances linked to interconnections). The packaging will include the active components and their control circuitry, known as an 'intelligent power module'. For these reasons, this V2xGaN project aims to develop an innovative high-power module concept based on GaN chips for V2X applications (vehicle to everything).
The objectives V2XGaN project are:
• New concept of an intelligent GaN 1200V / 150A power module
• A planar transformer (power range 50 ~ 100 kW)
• An isolated DC/DC converter for V2X application
The post-doctoral work will aim to implement calculations, simulations and then designs around the 'layout' of the substrate, the GaN module and the planar transformer.
All characterizations will take place at The National Solar Energy Institute (INES) - power electronics laboratory. The laboratory's experienced technical teams (power module team and magnet team) will support the post-doc at every stage and in particular for the experimental studies.
