General information
Organisation
The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is a key player in research, development and innovation in four main areas :
• defence and security,
• nuclear energy (fission and fusion),
• technological research for industry,
• fundamental research in the physical sciences and life sciences.
Drawing on its widely acknowledged expertise, and thanks to its 16000 technicians, engineers, researchers and staff, the CEA actively participates in collaborative projects with a large number of academic and industrial partners.
The CEA is established in ten centers spread throughout France

Description de l'unité
The laboratory of quantum devices is specialized in the development and fabrication of silicon spin qubits.
Position description
Category
Materials, solid state physics
Contract
Internship
Job title
Electrical characterization of silicon devices for spin Qubit realisation
Subject
Among the various approaches to realizing quantum bits, or qubits, spin qubits in silicon-based Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (MOS) structures stand out due to their compatibility with existing semiconductor technologies and potential for scalability.
However, this approach also entails several significant challenges that need to be addressed to realize its full potential.
For instance, impurities and defects occurring during the fabrication introduce noise and instability of the device, which can adversely affect qubit performance.
The goal of this internship is to characterize devices made at CEA-Leti at room temperature to extract relevant parameters that assess the quality of the devices.
To do so, several techniques of electrical characterization will be used to study the physical properties of the devices.
Contract duration (months)
6 months
Job description
The ideal candidate will be responsible for:
- Performing electrical measurements using semi-automatic probe stations.
- Analyzing data and presenting findings effectively.
- Developing algorithms for data analysis.
This internship can be followed by a Phd.
Methods / Means
Python, matlab
Applicant Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated student, with interest and training in experimental and semi-conductor physics. Solid competences in algorithm programming and data analysis are required. A knowledge of nano-fabrication techniques, low-temperature physics and quantum physics will be appreciated.
