General information
Organisation
The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is a key player in research, development and innovation in four main areas :
• defence and security,
• nuclear energy (fission and fusion),
• technological research for industry,
• fundamental research in the physical sciences and life sciences.
Drawing on its widely acknowledged expertise, and thanks to its 16000 technicians, engineers, researchers and staff, the CEA actively participates in collaborative projects with a large number of academic and industrial partners.
The CEA is established in ten centers spread throughout France

Job title
Internship - Advanced characterization of future PCM memories by transmission electron microscopy
Subject
The goal is to study segregation/crystallization phenomena in new PCM alloys integrated into state-of-the-art memory devices, using transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
The context of this internship is the strong maturity acquired by phase-change memory (PCM) in embedded applications. The ultimate scaling of this technology for very advanced nodes poses numerous challenges not only in manufacturing, but also in the physico-chemical characterization of these devices.
Given the scaling and complex geometry of the devices, the focus will be on optimizing experimental conditions and applying machine learning techniques to improve the quality and reliability of TEM analysis. A correlation with the electrical behavior of the device will be carried out to better understand the physics of its operation.
