General information

CEA (logo)

Organisation

The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is a key player in research, development and innovation in four main areas :
• defence and security,
• nuclear energy (fission and fusion),
• technological research for industry,
• fundamental research in the physical sciences and life sciences.

Drawing on its widely acknowledged expertise, and thanks to its 16000 technicians, engineers, researchers and staff, the CEA actively participates in collaborative projects with a large number of academic and industrial partners.

The CEA is established in ten centers spread throughout France

Description de l'unité

The Module Application Laboratory (LAM) implements the design of integrated photovoltaic modules in line with the specific needs of the targeted applications (space PV, mobility, etc.). It gathers and analyzes the requirements of each integration environment, and implements appropriate developments at the “module system” level, in coordination with the other laboratories in the Solar Technologies department.

POST-DOC 18 months - Optical functionalization of space photovoltaic modules front sheet

Subject

As part of the European aiming at developing perovskite (Pk) cell technology for space applications, the post-doctorate aims to study the functionalization of the Pk cell encapsulation substrate, a critical point for ensuring device reliability and lifetime.

Contract duration (months)

18 months

Job description

The LAM Laboratory at Le Bourget du Lac is looking for a post-doc for 18 months to work on the following topic: Optical functionalization of the front panel of space photovoltaic modules using nanopatterning.

As part of the European Pathfinder project “Jump into space”, aimed at developing perovskite (Pk) cell technology for space applications, the post-doctorate aims to study the functionalization of the Pk cell encapsulation substrate, a critical point for ensuring device reliability and lifetime.

As part of this post-doctorate, the CEA will evaluate and select polymer substrates of different families and thicknesses, based on their resistance to irradiation and erosion by atomic oxygen. These substrates will then be modified by heavy ion irradiation and chemical etching. The profile and density of the resulting holes will be adjusted to achieve the desired porosity and index-matching properties, targeting UV transmission reduction and visible light transmission enhancement. The microstructure and optical properties of these versatile substrates will be characterized by SEM and spectrophotometry. Where appropriate, these microstructures can be functionalized by deposition to enhance the substrates' spectral filtering capabilities. The stability of these properties will be monitored against mechanical stress and irradiation. Compatibility with the pk-cell deposition process will be assessed throughout.
