General information
Organisation
The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is a key player in research, development and innovation in four main areas :
• defence and security,
• nuclear energy (fission and fusion),
• technological research for industry,
• fundamental research in the physical sciences and life sciences.
Drawing on its widely acknowledged expertise, and thanks to its 16000 technicians, engineers, researchers and staff, the CEA actively participates in collaborative projects with a large number of academic and industrial partners.
The CEA is established in ten centers spread throughout France

Job title
Micropatterning of photosensitive hydrogels
Subject
The goal of the intership is to develop the manufacturing processes of microstructures in hydrogel material (10 to 1000 µm) composed by synthetic or natural polymers by photochemistry.
As the lithography in the electronic industry, there are two strategies for hydrogel structures making : by polymerization and by degradation.
In the polymerization way, the exposition of a precursor solution to the U.V light beams leads to the hydrogel formation while they cause in the degradation way, the hydrogel solubilisation followed of its removal during the washing step. Through a mask between the U.V light and the used chemical materials.
Through a mask between the U.V light and the used chemical materials, you will study and applicate the most convenient strategy for preparing microchanels and further hollow needles in hydrogel material.

Job description
As an intern at CEA, you will have the opportunity to work in a world-renowned research environment. Our teams consist of passionate and dedicated experts, providing an ideal setting for learning and collaboration. You will have access to cutting-edge equipment and top-tier research resources to successfully complete your assignments.
You will elaborate a compatible chemistry to the choosed hydrogel microstructures fabrication manner.
For polymerization way, you will use photopolymerizable compounds. Among them, there are molecules bearing an acrylic moiety. Certain are commercial and other already synthesized in our laboratory such as polysaccharides : dextran, HA, and gelatin.
Concerning the degradation way, you must design and synthesize a photosensitive linker which will be engaged in the hydrogel network formation. Under U.V light, this linker will be damaged leading to the polymer networks destruction yielding hydrogel solubilisation as result.
The caractrisation methods include NMR, Infra- red spectroscopies, rheology and camera Keyence.
